Cocktails in a Cannes
Cocktails in a Cannes
We created Cannes Royale, our modern take on the classic Kir Royale. Cannes, pronounced “cans.” So naturally, we put the cocktail in one. The collection made its debut exactly where it had to: in Cannes, served throughout the festival at Tavern talks, events and gatherings.
For liquid development, we began with Champagne sourced from Champagne, France, then built a collection of distinctly French flavors. Crème de cassis from Dijon. Eau-de-pêche from Alsace. Eau-de-poire from Normandy. Côté Citron from the Côte d’Azur.
Each ingredient brought a different part of the country into the can. Much like people from across France heading south for the summer, flavors from around the country made their way to the Riviera. A little taste of home, canned for the holiday.
Even the size of the can was carefully considered. Rather than force a sparkling cocktail into the category-standard format, Cannes Royale comes in a compact 222 mL can. It feels lovely in the hand, but more importantly, it closely matches the 180 mL pour of a proper spritz.
The additional 42 mL? A little more because you’re in France, on holiday, after all. Save the porter a trip back to the bar.
The identity takes inspiration from Cannes and the graphic vernacular of the French Riviera, balancing sun-soaked leisure with a sense of French ceremony. Throughout the packaging, visual Easter eggs reward a closer look.
A Croix de Guerre-inspired cross nods to Félix Kir, the priest and Resistance hero behind the drink’s name. Traditionally awarded for acts of bravery, we reimagined it as recognition for another heroic contribution to French culture: giving the world the Kir Royale.
At once elevated and irreverent, regional and transportive, Cannes Royale brings together everything Tavern Labs was created to do: find a simple idea, take every detail seriously and turn it into a real brand people want to hold, open and enjoy.
