In honor of Burt’s Bees 40th anniversary, TAVERN partnered with the brand to celebrate their long standing relationship with Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument through a limited edition line of summer merch.
Back in 1984, Burt’s Bees was founded in Maine by Burt himself and his lesser-known business partner, Roxanne Quimby. Drawn together by their shared passion for nature, the founders made environmental preservation a driving force behind the brand. As Burt’s Bees grew rapidly in the early years, Roxanne decided to turn their success into a force for good. Beginning in the 1990’s she used the profits from Burt’s Bees to purchase timberland in Maine and save it from logging. For every case of balm sold, she purchased one acre of land. By 2016, she had accumulated roughly 87,500 acres which she then donated to establish the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument to ensure its preservation for future generations.
The Camp Burt’s ‘84 merch collection, created by TAVERN in partnership with Burt’s Bees and the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, celebrates the brand’s role in helping to preserve this national treasure with clothing, accessories and other gear designed to accompany you on adventures into the great outdoors.
Taking the brand back to its roots, each piece in the collection borrows its inspiration from vintage design sourced from the brand’s archives. The iconic yellow and red chapstick tube’s design inspired a reusable water bottle, towel and hammock while also informing the colors for a selection of smaller accessories. New balms in cardboard tubing cut down on plastic waste. Burt himself is heroed on a vintage upcycled tshirt, echoing a retro graphic the Tavern team discovered of the founder riding a motorcycle.
